SeedWorks was founded in 1998 by Dr. Balaji Nukal and Wand Partners, a US PE fund. Balaji Nukal is a plant breeder by profession and has built a company focused on creating ‘prolific, commercially successful breeding programs’. The company started with vegetables seeds and achieved market leadership in okra and tomato crops. SeedWorks entered field crops business with the introduction of a hybrid rice seeds in 2006 and entered BT cotton seeds in 2011. SeedWorks grew the vegetable seed business over years and becoming India’s largest domestic vegetable seed company. In June 2015 Bayer acquired SeedWorks vegetables seed business.
SeedWorks has operations throughout India and exports hybrid rice to South East Asia. SeedWorks also has its biotech facility in Singapore and representative offices/100% subsidiary in Philippines.
Field Crops business of SeedWorks is taken over by True North in July 2016. SeedWorks is well poised and placed to grow Rice and Cotton Seeds business aggressively by increasing footprints market reach with product strengths in hand also, entering strongly into vegetable seed business again from 2017 Year end.
